Jobs/Economy Just Sucks

February 11, 2008 / by carrielucenda

Ok! so I just got through doing my monday ritual in viewing the online job boards, and everything just sucks.  Sorry, to be so blunt but the job market is horrible.  Now when I click on the news the reporters talk about a great job market and how the unemployment rates are low (as we all know the news changes depending on which network you listen to).  No one seems to point out that most of the jobs are paying wages at or near minimum wage.  Alot, of people with families have to work two jobs to just keep a roof over there heads.   Is this right?  NO..........

Anyway, I've been looking for a part-time job for a couple of months now, because I work in sales and my work is seasonal.   I have found that employers want you to have a college degree, open availability, willingness to travel and speak four different languages all for the big pay rate of $8.50 per hour.  Sometimes, I have to pinch myself and then I realize this 2008 the year of change and even more big spending.

This brings me to the subject of those tax rebate checks.  If memory serves me well didn't this happen a couple of years ago, and it was like a bandaid doing a temporary fix to an even bigger problem.

Why can't the government get some equality in the cost of goods and wages?  The price of gas, rent/home payment, food etc.... keeps rising year after year.  In contrast, the wages seem to be stagnant, and healthcare should be provided by every employer.

Sorry!  I got on a rant, but it's monday and I needed to vent.   : ()Yell

This is why I stay home with my children - its cheaper for me to stay home rather for me to spend my whole check on daycare! It doesn't seem right - does it? Funny how KFC will pay high school kids $10 a hour and when you are a professional you start off at $9! Keep your search up something will turn up!Smile

I'm so glad you have written this. Six months ago I was online looking for work also. Each day it seemed these ads were asking for the candidate to have a PHD and still were paying $11.00, I just could not believe it. The nerve of them! Those jobs I was hunting for were and still is paying less money now then they were 10 years ago.

I did find a job and it's paying horrible. I'm thinking about turning in my leased car since I can walk to work and save money on the car note, insurance and gas. Just can't afford it. Disgusting!!

I've thought about getting rid of my car to, because it's just too expensive.  I've been looking again for a job close to my house so that I can walk or bike to work.  I can lose weight and finally start saving a little bit of money.  Wish me luck!!!!!

My goodness, we think alike once again. I thought, if I give up my car again like I stated I will also lose some weight. LOL
